What is a metallic expansion joint?

Metallic expansion joints are used in pipes, equipment and all the other cases where is necessary to compensate thermal expansion. Since expansion joints are high technological components, they must be chosen and installed correctly, according to the design conditions.

The expansion joint can be manufactured with a single or double bellows, with or without external support based on the installation’s requirements.

How a bellows works

The bellows is a metallic sealing and flexible component that allows axial, lateral and angular movements. In the following diagrams, it is possible to see the flexible movements of a single and double bellows.

The combination of bellows and external supports or the combinations of more expansion joints consent to solve a wide variety of problems due to the compensation of thermal expansion.
